What Are You Ready to Start? 🌱
Sometimes a quiet question begins to surface inside us:
I want to be a more authentic leader… how could I?
What might happen if I tried to…?
I’ve been thinking about this for a long time… what’s the first step?
You might feel the urge to begin — a project, a routine, a class, or a shift in perspective. Or perhaps something inside you wants to restart something that didn’t go the way you hoped.
Beginnings have a way of calling to us.
And yet, starts can be scary.
By their very nature, starts ask us to step outside our comfort zone — sometimes with a tentative baby step, sometimes with a courageous leap. You might notice butterflies in your stomach or a quickening pulse when you think about taking that step.
When we begin something new, we step into uncertainty. There are no guarantees — and yet, we often feel excitement right alongside the fear.
That discomfort is not a sign to stop.
It’s often a sign that something meaningful is beginning.
Every meaningful change starts this way — a little uncomfortable and a little hopeful at the same time.
If something has been quietly nudging you, consider asking yourself:
Has this idea been returning to me repeatedly?
Is now the time, and I’m simply feeling scared?
Why does this matter to me?
What is the smallest possible first step?
Often, the first step reveals the next one.
A Leader’s Story
A client recently reached out to revisit a conversation we once had about coaching and team development.
The first time we spoke, he was navigating significant personal challenges. He didn’t have the capacity to focus on growth — for himself or his team.
Months later, he followed that internal nudge and reached out again.
This time, the timing was different. The first step came more easily, and momentum began to build.
Sometimes the difference isn’t the idea — it’s readiness.
Practice Starting
Bring to mind one thing that’s calling to you.
Pause and check in with yourself. Feelings drive behavior — so simply notice what’s present. Excitement? Fear? Both?
Now ask:
What is one tiny step I’m willing to take?
A few ways to begin:
Set a timer for 15 minutes and explore or research
Reach out to a trusted person for a conversation
Do a “brain dump” — write, sketch, or map out your thoughts (use color, movement, creativity)
Let it be small. Let it be imperfect. Let it begin.
